Another message from Baby Happy
Something strange is happening that I find myself at a loss to explain. I’m sensing a sort of unfamiliar commotion in part of my dwelling. I must admit to feeling somewhat disconcerted. The commotion seems to be growing, though I can fathom neither its source nor its purpose. I have in the past felt a sensation of hands pressing against me from outside my dwelling, but at the moment the touching seems rather vigorous; in fact, I would describe it as pushing rather than touching. The sensation is not wholly unpleasant but I do wish it would sto— wait a minute. What’s happening? I’m being pulled out of my— HOLY CRAP!!! PUT ME BACK!!! MY LUNGS ARE BURNING AND I’M FREEZING MY ASS OFF!!!! AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! WHAT IS THIS?!! WHERE’S MY MAMA?!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! SON OF A—
A note from Curt
I hope you can all forgive my son for forgetting himself at this moment, and I hope he’ll forgive me for cutting him off before he blogs anything he’ll regret later on. He was born by scheduled C-section earlier today (it was scheduled only last Friday, so there was no cheating in the pool) because our doctor feared he might be too big for a safe vaginal birth. Here are his vitals (I will tally the baby pool guesses as soon as I can):
Born: Thursday, Nov. 3 at 2:42 p.m.
Weight: 10 lbs., 6 oz.
Length: 22 inches
I’ve never really been around babies, so I have no frame of reference, but everyone at the hospital took one look at him and said "Now that is one big baby."
This has been a surreal day. I can’t tell whether I’m emotionally overwhelmed, emotionally numb, or just exhausted, but I can’t really express any feelings right now. Baby and his mama are both doing amazingly well. C-sections are never pleasant, but this one seems to have gone off without a hitch. I will certainly write more about this later.

Yay! I get to be the first to say CONGRATULATIONS! Luanne and I are so happy for you! I love you, bro… Give little JC a kiss for me.

Yay! Congrats, Mr. and Mrs. Happy! Praise God for this little (???) gift of a boy. I’ll have to comfort myself with knowing that if the baby had been born naturally, I would have won the pool.
P.S. I was right around that same weight as a baby. Now I’m 220 lbs. - although I’d rather say 100kg because that sounds better.

Congratulations! The picture is access denied at work (if it’s a picture of the baby, he must be rather scantily clad), but really, congratulations! I’m sad I didn’t win the baby pool, but I’m glad your son has finally joined you in the extra-utero world and, gosh, I’m just so happy I could cry! Send my congrats onto Mrs Happy!
(Is it weird to be this happy for someone on the internet?)

Awwww…what a beautiful baby boy. My warmest congratulations to the Happy Family.

He is certainly a HENDLEY baby. I was only 2 ounces heavier and have forgoyyen how tall I was. He may have been born in New York but he is a Texas baby. I wonder if he will be my size or yours?
Should I change my name to THE HAPPIER GRANDDADDY?

Ten pounds four ounces? Now that is a big baby! I can understand why the doctor wanted to go for a C-section rather than a vaginal birth!
From what I’ve heard (no personal experience with babies yet, of course), you shouldn’t worry if he drops a pound or two in the first few days; he’ll put it back on pretty quick. His digestive system just needs a bit of time to get used to processing milk instead of taking in nutrients from the umbilical cord.
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!

I’m so happy for you both! Awwww! He’s DARLING!
…that said, I weighed 10 pounds 8 ounces. If your wife would like comfort, let me know, and she can call my mom.
Congratulations!!!! He’s lovely! What a litt-er, big blessing!

Holy crap! That’s a big baby!! Way to go mama carrying that thing! Congrats to both of you, and if we see more RLTB posts for awhile, we’ll certainly understand!
I forget, did you have a name picked out?

Here are more congratulations to add to the rest. Glad all is well. Comfort your wife with the fact that one c-section doesn’t always mean another.
God is good to give new life. Enjoy!

Welcome very big Baby Happy! Myself, I’ve done two labors, two c-sections and have two kids (no natural talent for pregnancy and birth). Best help I can offer is to make sure that she gets up and walking as soon as possible, it really does make it easier. Congratulations Happy Family.

That’s one beautiful baby and one beautiful bunch of pictures you took before and after delivery. So glad to see you guys sooooo happy.
November 4th, 2005 at 9:50 pm
Congrats!!! He is precious and BIG! Wait… didn’t you say something about starting a college savings plan for the University of Oklahoma!!!!!
November 4th, 2005 at 11:03 pm
Congratulations!!! I was 9 pounds and also delivered by C-section. 10 pounds is really something! I can’t see the picture but I bet your son (how does it feel saying “my son” ?!) looks absolutely adorable. Hugs all around!
November 5th, 2005 at 2:10 am
Whoa! I imagine you were painting your wife’s toenails the last month! That’s the first thing I noticed after having my first, my toes! Hopefully there will be good pooping and much good passing of gas very soon, and oh, for your wife also! That’s very important for a mom who’s had a C-section! Congratulations, and now the adventure begins!!
November 5th, 2005 at 2:12 am
And oh, my daughter will be giving birth to a daughter of her own within the next week - maybe we can introduce her to tater in a few years!!
November 5th, 2005 at 2:31 am
Unbelievable. That baby would have been born on the 14th, if you had just waited. Of course, he would have weighed fifteen pounds and been able to walk and talk at birth, but I still feel cheated. He was *supposed* to have been born on my birthday. I weighed 8lbs. 7oz. when I was born and so did my first child, a girl. I guess I should have gone with my second “little” girl’s stats. She was 10lbs. 3oz. and 22 in. long. Fortunately, she was in a hurry to get out and I was only in labor for under four hours before she popped out. I probably should have stayed home and saved myself the trouble of going to the hospital. All I can say is, “Whoa! How much is your next baby going to weigh??” Congratulations and God bless you and your new family!

Oh Curt, your little one is so beautiful. I am so happy for you both. Congratulations to you — make sure you give him lots and lots of kisses and enjoy that new baby smell (kind of like the new car smell, only less leathery!) because it won’t be long before he learns the word “no” and, well… Just enjoy this time!
November 9th, 2005 at 1:49 pm
awww…congratulations!!!
Now your blog should be called: The Happy Husband & Father! haha
November 10th, 2005 at 12:11 pm
Wow, congratulations on your healthy baby boy. Just to give you a frame of reference, my baby son was 7 lbs 3 oz at birth, about average size. He was the size of your baby - 10lbs - when he was one month old. So … basically you’re starting out with a one month old. Congrats! He is adorable!
